|rFactor²| Q&A from racedepartment

written by PaVeL at Wednesday, December 21st 2011, 9:58am

racedepartment talked with Tim Wheatley about rF²---open beta---release---the racesimulation.

Will the game include advanced ambience effects like wind? If so how do these effect the player.
Wind will be included (most likely after the open beta), and will have an effect on both cars and environment. A typical example would be the approach to the Masta Kink: If you have had the wind behind, you may need to bring your markers for lifting and/or braking further away from the turn-in. You may also need to adjust gear ratios to cope with the faster speeds, which may cause engine damage.

Is full clutch support added in the game? And are transmission systems implemented true to real life (F1 paddle, sequential shifting etc)
Currently the clutch behavior remains constant, no effects of heat or wear are simulated during the initial open beta phase. As for the transmission, semi-automatic, manual, sequential and H-shifters are supported. H-shifters no longer suffer shift delays and so are no longer penalized for vehicles to which they are appropriate. As for gearbox wear and crunching, this is something we’d like to see by the time of the initial release.

Tell us about the mechanical damage. What parts can experience failures and is it related to the actions of the driver?
For the initial stages of the open beta phase, brakes and engines can fail when punished, such as choosing poor ducting or constantly over-revving the engine.
As stated in the previous answer, clutch and transmission damage is definitely a priority and there are also other aspects of mechanical failures we will be looking into as we move forward, these include slow punctures and tire blowouts.

Will turbo charges be simulated? I.e. boost lag.
Not currently, but this is something that will come into play at some point.

Can rFactor 2 handle more than 3 input devices? (HID Joysticks etc)
rFactor 2 will accept up to four controllers.

What differentiates rFactor 2 from its predecessor and other...[Read on]

|rFactor²| Managing Content for rFactor 2

written by PaVeL at Wednesday, December 14th 2011, 9:30am

This diagrams gives an overview of how content comes into the rFactor2 system for single and multiplayer races.

Components are completed cars, tracks, sounds, UIs, HUDs, Skins or Showrooms. An individual race circuit is an example of a component. Using the All Cars and Track race series in single player mode, you can take any car you have for a drive on this newly downloaded circuit.

Race series (or Mods) are a group of components with at least one car and track. Each has a unique ModID and can be tested online within the mod testing group while in development. Once it is complete, a Submit ID is generated and sent to the matchmaker. This submitted Mod now becomes available to the entire online community and is version controlled to eliminate mismatch problems.

Mods can be created from scratch or by combining existing components created by other content creators. A Mod can contain virtual components, meaning it points to existing content but doesn’t physically include it. This reduces redundant copies of the same components. A user who downloads a Mod containing virtual components will not be allowed to install it if those components don’t already exist on their system. An error log will inform the user of any missing components.

|other stuff| Wartungsarbeiten/maintenance

written by PaVeL at Tuesday, December 13th 2011, 7:00pm

Erreichbarkeit Ihrer Webseite kommen.

An den Servern selbst werden keine Änderungen durchgeführt. Ihre
Webseite sind im Anschluss an die Wartungsarbeiten wieder wie gewohnt
verfügbar.

Für Ihr Verständnis bedanken wir uns im Voraus.

on December 16th, between two and six o\'clock am, we\'re going to do
some set ups of our network. Also we are going to test emergency
power supply by simulating an eletrical power outage. This could
lead to a restricted availability of your websites for a short
duration.
There will be made no changes on the servers. Your websites will be
available again as soon as the maintenance is completed.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

|iracing| added new serverfarm in europe

written by PaVeL at Monday, December 12th 2011, 10:00am

iRacing.com has added a new server farm in The Netherlands to its two existing installations in the United States and Australia. In addition to the redundancy and security provided by the new hardware, the new Amsterdam-based server further augments iRacing’s Internet connection through a blend of multiple providers, assuring members of the best possible network routes and connections.
“In addition to adding yet more capacity to the iRacing service, the new servers will be a real plus for our European members,” says iRacing.com vice president of technology, Chris Page. “Their network traffic will no longer have to cross the Atlantic Ocean, so the information exchange between computer and server will be that much better. The server – and therefore the drivers — will know much more quickly where any given car is relative to others. As a result, the tight racing will only get tighter!”
The European servers will initially be available for practice and hosted sessions. However, Page also stressed that iRacing will take pains not to split official race events onto multiple server farms.

… in the next days and we have in this year only 24 days left.

And some news from Tim Wheatley

Quoted from "Tim Wheatley"

1 licensed 1966 F1 car, with generic fillers.
3 tracks: Spa, Monaco, and another.

Renault Megane, Formula Renault 3.5
3 tracks (most likely), Malaysia, Portugal, Mills.

Obviously, decisions could change this, and the unannounced track and car will be announced most likely together. Although there is a nice teaser inserted into the forum header now.
