Nordschleife, AMG GT3 & Telemetry — How 1.5 Seconds Were Found

The car forced me back to the dampers. Terrible grip on corner exit (massive wheelspin) — and in between, a constant cycle of understeer and oversteer that never allowed any real confidence to build. So: pull up the telemetry, analyse the Suspension Velocity Histograms, lap by lap.

What the data revealed

Suspension Velocity Histogram (telemetry analysis per wheel — Slow vs. Fast speed distribution)


Suspension Velocity Histograms show how fast each wheel is moving — slow movements during braking and turn-in, fast ones over bumps and kerbs. You can immediately see whether the axles are working together or against each other.

The baseline data revealed a clear problem: the rear axle was significantly more active than the front. On track, that translates to nervousness and a lack of confidence on turn-in — especially through the fast, uneven sections of the Nordschleife.

Step by step toward the goal

The plan was simple: reduce rear rebound gradually, measure after each change, don't overdo it. After two rounds of adjustments, the balance between front and rear axle had improved dramatically. Then a symmetric increase of slow damping on all four corners — and that was it.

Nothing more was needed. Trying even more damping at the front immediately undid the good feeling. So back to what the data had confirmed. Sometimes less really is more.

The result

A noticeably calmer rear axle, more confidence on turn-in — and in the end, over a second off the clock. Not by chance, but through a clear, systematic approach.
