McLaren 720S GT3 Evo – Nordschleife Setup Now Available

Data-Driven, Not Gut Feeling: The Damper Tuning

The core of this setup is the suspension velocity histograms. Instead of just turning damper knobs and hoping for the best, I worked click by click: balancing the fast and slow ranges on both the front and rear axle so the wheels follow the track cleanly, without overdamping or floating. The decisive step was at the front axle — an overly stiff fast rebound was making the front bite too hard in slow corners, which in turn destabilized the rear. Two targeted clicks less made the turn-in more progressive and all but eliminated the corner-entry oversteer.

The Right Lever for Every Corner

For the rest, the goal was to address each issue with the right lever instead of changing things at random. Corner speed tells you where the problem sits: slow corners are mechanical (differential, brake bias, springs), fast corners are aero. On the 720S, only preload and clutches are adjustable on the diff — the ramp angles are locked — so the mechanical balance was fine-tuned via preload and a carefully chosen brake bias. Medium-speed corners served as the reference: whatever worked well there couldn't be allowed to break by changing things in the slow stuff.

The Result: A Wide Balance Window

What came out is a predictable, fast package. In practical terms: you don't have to manhandle the car to be quick. The front axle turns in willingly, the rear stays stable on corner exit, and the car forgives the occasional messy moment instead of sending you straight into the barrier. That's exactly what matters over 20+ kilometers of Nordschleife — consistency across the whole lap beats a single hot corner.

Lap Time & Use Case

The reference is an 8:00.460 (sectors 3:13.688 / 3:18.153 / 1:28.620), and that wasn't the end of the line — with a truly clean lap, the sub-8 mark is clearly within reach. The setup works for both hotlaps and longer stints; the tyre pressures and the overall tuning are designed for consistent temperatures across multiple laps.
