Porsche 992 GT3 R · Nordschleife: predictably fast at 7:58

The starting point

The Porsche 992 GT3 R is brutally fast out of the corners on the Nordschleife — and that's exactly what makes it demanding. Out of the box it sat at a flat 8:00, but the car was alive in all the wrong places: plenty of movement, little confidence through the middle of the corner.

Two adjustments, not a tinkering marathon

The suspension velocity histograms pointed the way: a clear rebound surplus at the front, a rear axle that was already balanced from the start. Instead of reworking the whole car, a single front damper change brought the confidence — and one small step on the differential noticeably calmed the corner exit. Nothing more was needed. Bottom line: around 1.7 seconds, and a car you can finally trust.

A rear engine means character

The 992 is the only true rear-engined car in the current GT3 field, and you feel it in every corner. The mass behind the rear axle delivers exit traction no mid-engined car can match — but it asks for an active, exit-focused driving style in return. Drive the exit and trust the rear, and it pays you back.

The philosophy

The histogram is the map, not the destination. A theoretically "perfect" damper value made this car undriveable here — so the remaining surplus stays on purpose, because it keeps the front stable on rebound. On the Nordschleife, predictability beats the theoretical optimum. Every time.
