The M4 GT4 is a different animal from a GT3. Front engine, less downforce, less grip – and a car that naturally wants to push. That's exactly what the Nordschleife exposed: in the quick sections, especially the Stefan-Bellof-S and around Pflanzgarten, the front just wouldn't bite at speed the way I wanted.
The problem: high-speed understeer in the fast corners
In the very fast direction changes the front washes out. At first glance a clear damper job – and on the GT3 that's exactly where I'd have started. The catch: the GT4 won't even let you near that knob.
The GT4 catch: fast dampers locked
The very lever that helps most in a high-speed load change is fixed on the GT4. You only get the slow damper stages to play with. So you can optimise yourself to death on the telemetry – the button that matters isn't there. So I made the car predictable with the levers I actually have.
The fix: mechanics and aero instead of damper dreaming
Front anti-roll bar softer, rear stiffer – that nudges the balance toward the front without unsettling the rear. Less rear wing on top, so the front gets more load at speed. And a small step less rebound damping up front, so the front settles faster after the load change. None of these steps is spectacular on its own – but together they do exactly what I wanted.
The result
It wasn't a big stopwatch chase – but the car got noticeably more driveable, and a couple of seconds came off along the way too. And on the Nordschleife that's worth more than the last tenth on paper. A bit of high-speed push is always safer than a nervous rear at 250 km/h. A car you trust through the Bellof-S ends up quicker than one that looks perfect and still surprises you.
