Eight weeks. That's how long it took to build a dedicated setup for every GT3 and GT4 car for the Nordschleife. Eight weeks full of highs and lows that I want to share with you.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 has now also been tested on the Nordschleife. The Cayman proves to be a very well-balanced car – not a supercar, but a true all-rounder that delivers solid results in virtually every corner.

Der Cayman ist ein richtig angenehmes Auto, kann von allem ein bisschen, ist aber nirgends der Überflieger.

After several sessions with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 on the Nordschleife, the focus was clear: find where the car was losing time and correct the handling in a targeted way. Down from 8:40.7 to 8:39.979 — a small but clean step forward.

Am Anfang der Runde untersteuert's noch ein bisschen, das ist so gewollt. Ab Runde vier, fünf könnte es dann eher Richtung Übersteuern kippen, mal schauen ob der Flügel das noch auffängt. Am Flugplatz hab ich außerdem noch drei Zehntel liegen…

No Top Speed, Plenty of Character: The Ginetta G55 GT4 on the Nordschleife

Fahrhinweis: Der Ginetta lebt von den kurvenreichen Passagen der Nordschleife, hat aber keinen ausgeprägten Top Speed. Das Handling ist sauber und vorhersehbar, ohne aggressives Übersteuern am Kurvenausgang.

A new arrival

The Camaro GT4.R is the newest addition to our Nordschleife lineup, and the first impression is thoroughly positive. The car turns in very well and stays surprisingly stable through the fast sections too – none of the nervousness you might expect from a front-engined GT4.

After a run of GT3 setups, TE0815PaVeL drops down a class this time: the Audi R8 LMS GT4 takes on the Nordschleife in Automobilista 2, posting 8:39.660 (3:33.259 / 3:34.860 / 1:31.540) — with more time clearly still on the table.

Das Auto wechselt zwischen Kurveneingang und -ausgang gelegentlich zwischen leichtem Unter- und Übersteuern. Nicht langsam, aber in schnellen Kurven mit Vorsicht zu genießen – mit sinkendem Tankgewicht sollte im Rennverlauf noch mehr Zeit drin sein.

On Track

The Vantage GT4 has real character on the Nordschleife. Soft and low at the front, high and firm at the rear – that was the direction I took the car. The main challenge was a stubborn high-speed understeer that turned out to be tightly linked to how the rear behaves down the Döttinger Höhe.

The Setup

The key insight was that on the Vantage GT4 the ride height is the strongest lever against the dynamic rake – more so than the springs. Front at minimum, rear at maximum gives the best…

Das Auto hat mich ganz schön beschäftigt – vor allem ein zähes Highspeed-Untersteuern in schnellen Kurven. Am Ende war klar: Front so tief wie möglich, Heck so hoch wie möglich, und dann über die Heckfeder das Einsacken bei Topspeed in den Griff…

The little Frenchman is a character all of its own around the Nordschleife: light, agile, and with a rear end you have to tame first. For the Green Hell I dialled in the Alpine A110 GT4 in Automobilista 2 so that it stays predictable over the full distance – and on this track that is worth more in the end than the last tenth on a single perfect lap.

Berechenbares, gut fahrbares Setup für die Nordschleife. Vorne angehobene, hinten leicht abgesenkte Fahrwerkshöhe gegen das Übersteuern, längere Übersetzung für mehr Topspeed auf der Döttinger Höhe und sauber abgestimmte Dämpfer.
